This film documents the final live performance of the legendary Brainfreeze set, recorded on January 18, 2000, at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles—and I was part of the production on the ground that night. I worked as a cameraman, responsible for B-roll coverage and filming on stage alongside the artists, capturing moments from within the performance rather than from the sidelines.

Being on stage during Brainfreeze meant documenting a true masterclass in turntablism as DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist mixed rare funk, soul, and hip-hop 45s using vinyl only—no laptops, no safety nets. The DVD goes beyond the full live set, incorporating rehearsal footage, interviews, and highlights from supporting DJs including Marvski, Dante, DJ Nu-Mark, and Z-Trip.

Brainfreeze is widely regarded as a landmark moment in DJ culture, preserving a brief but influential period when live DJ performance was being pushed to new creative limits. Having a camera on stage—capturing hands on vinyl, crowd reactions, and the energy between performers—put me directly inside that moment as it was happening, not as a retrospective.
