Mountain Mike’s Pizza. Seven years, four workstreams, 330 stores.
Mountain Mike’s Pizza runs 330 active stores across 12 states. SD has been the design and engineering partner since February 2019. Seven years in, the engagement spans the PLUS maintenance plan, a custom multi-location Feedback Tracker SaaS we built and run for them, ongoing accessibility monitoring, and ongoing development hours that absorb the new pages, brand updates, and custom work as the franchise grows.
The longest run in the studio. Multi-product depth from one client.
Mountain Mike’s Pizza is a West Coast pizza franchise growing into a multi-state operation. Today: 330 active stores across 12 states, headquarters in California, marketing and brand consistency managed centrally for a franchise network where every store is independently operated but the brand is everyone’s.
SD came on in February 2019 with an existing brand and an existing site. We didn’t rebuild either. What we’ve done over the seven years since is wider than any single deliverable: ongoing brand operations on their WordPress site, a custom multi-location Feedback Tracker that runs as monthly SaaS infrastructure, a formal accessibility monitoring program, and the standing development hours that absorb new pages, brand refreshes, and the operational work a 330-store franchise generates. MMP owns the hosting account; SD has access for the work.
The engagement’s depth is what year-10 SD looks like in practice. Multiple parallel workstreams, a custom SaaS we built and operate, productized retainers running alongside ongoing development, six straight years of run-phase work. The build never really finished; the system just keeps growing.
Three workstreams. One six-year retainer.
A custom multi-location feedback tracker SD built specifically for MMP’s 330-store footprint. Routes customer feedback to the right operator at the right store, aggregates the data centrally for brand-level visibility, and runs on SD-managed n8n infrastructure. Billed monthly as productized SaaS. This is the standout engineering deliverable in the engagement and a real-world example of SD shipping software, not just sites.
Two compliance workstreams running on the same site. A US-only OneTrust Cookie Consent deployment (CCPA-style opt-out, not GDPR — MMP doesn’t have EU traffic) for state-privacy-law compliance. And a monthly Accessibility Monitoring program using SD’s ADA Scanner: continuous WCAG scanning + preferred-client remediation hours included. Together it’s the kind of ongoing legal-and-accessibility coverage most franchises have to coordinate across three different vendors.
The PLUS WordPress maintenance plan (weekly updates, daily backups, 24/7 monitoring, 48-hour fix turnaround) runs alongside a development retainer that absorbs everything the maintenance plan doesn’t cover: new pages, brand refreshes, store-locator updates, integration fixes, the steady stream of small-but-not-small operational requests a 330-store franchise generates each month.
Year seven. Four active workstreams. No end date scheduled.
Year 10 SD is the operating layer behind MMP’s digital brand. They don’t need an in-house web team. They’ve had one on retainer for seven years.
// status: active · Year 7 of engagement · multi-product retainer · no end date scheduled
What MMP’s team says.
Seven years is a long time to keep an outside partner on a retainer. The depth of the engagement — four parallel workstreams, a custom SaaS, a 330-store footprint — only works when the partnership works.
